Alexander County
The Alexander County Courthouse is located in Cairo, Illinois. Cairo is the Southernmost town in Illinois and was once a thriving river port for trade due to its location at the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. Local historical points of interest include Magnolia Manor, the Cairo Custom house, and Fort Defiance State Park. Charles Dickens based the town of Eden in his book Martin Chuzzlewit on the town of Cairo after he visited it in 1842.
The Pulaski County Courthouse is located in Mounds City, Illinois. First-time visitors often go to the community of Mounds by mistake, which is understandable considering it is 3.5 miles away from Mounds City. Mounds City, which is located on the banks of the Ohio River, got its name from its close proximity to the ancient native American mounds in the area.
